PIA Baggage Allowance 2026: Cabin, Checked and Zamzam
Checked: July 2026 against Pakistan International Airlines published information · PIA changes route allowances often, so your ticket and check-in are final
Will your bag fly PIA?
Measure with wheels and handles included. This tests the economy cabin rule of about 55 × 38 × 22 cm and 7 kg.
PIA is a bonus airline on SafarCheck. It is not yet part of the live 14-airline cabin checker on the homepage, so the quick tool above tests your bag against PIA's own 7 kg cabin rule only, using cross-checked figures. Every verified PIA number is shown in full on this page. To compare a bag across the 14 carriers in our dataset, use the bag size checker.

As checked by SafarCheck in July 2026 against PIA's published information and cross-referenced sources. Every piac.com.pk page returned an automated-access block when we checked, so these figures come from official-page snippets and cross-checks, not a directly read page. PIA sets allowances route by route and fare by fare, and changes them often. The allowance printed on your ticket overrides every table on the internet, including this one.
Cabin baggage: 1 piece, 7 kg
PIA's economy cabin allowance is one piece of hand baggage weighing up to 7 kg. That 7 kg matches the common corridor limit, so a bag packed for Emirates, Qatar Airways or IndiGo generally sits within PIA's cabin weight too. The size is cross-checked at about 55 × 38 × 22 cm, roughly 115 cm added together, or 45 linear inches, which is the standard trolley footprint. We could not read these numbers on PIA's own page directly, so weigh and measure at home, then confirm the current limit on PIA's official page or at check-in.
A small personal item such as a handbag or a laptop bag is generally accepted subject to cabin space, though PIA's public text does not document it as a firmly separate allowance the way many Gulf carriers do. Treat the personal item as a courtesy that depends on the flight rather than a guaranteed second piece. Business and Executive Economy passengers are cross-checked as getting more: one main bag up to 7 kg plus a briefcase up to about 5 kg, near 12 kg in total, which again should be confirmed with PIA.
Checked baggage: weight for most routes, pieces for the USA and Canada
PIA runs a mixed model. Most of the network, Pakistan domestic, the Middle East, the UK and Europe, uses the weight concept, where you get a total number of kilograms to split across your bags. Flights to the United States and Canada use the piece concept, where each passenger gets a set number of bags rather than a weight pool. Knowing which model your route uses is the first thing to check, because it changes how you pack.
Pakistan domestic
On all ATR sectors the free allowance is 20 kg, which is the one domestic figure taken from PIA's own baggage-guide text. Jet-operated domestic sectors are reported at 20 kg in economy and 30 kg in business, but that split comes from a third-party source and should be confirmed against PIA's domestic fare rules. One domestic quirk matters: except on USA and Canada routes, accepting an extra piece within your free weight allowance costs a flat 4 kg Excess Baggage Ticket, even when your total weight is under the limit. In other words, PIA prices the number of bags, not only the kilos.
International (weight-concept routes)
International economy on weight-concept routes is commonly around 30 kg as a default, with the UK and Europe often set higher. Because PIA changes these route allowances frequently and its pages were not readable to our automated check, the figures below are a cross-checked snapshot to verify on Booking Conditions, not fixed numbers to pack against.
| Route example | Economy (reported) | Business / Executive Economy (reported) |
|---|---|---|
| UK (LHR, MAN, BHX) | 40 kg | 50 kg |
| Europe (for example Paris) | 40 kg | 50 kg |
| Karachi – London | 40 kg | 50 kg |
| Middle East / Gulf | 30–40 kg, route dependent | route dependent |
| Default (other weight routes) | from 30 kg | route dependent |
Route figures cross-checked July 2026; verify on PIA Booking Conditions before you pack, as PIA revises route and fare allowances often. No single bag may exceed 32 kg on any route.
United States and Canada (piece concept)
USA and Canada flights switch to the piece concept, with two pieces per passenger the documented count. The usual industry norm for transatlantic piece routes is 2 × 23 kg in economy and 2 × 32 kg in business, but that is a general norm, not a figure we could verify as PIA's published allowance, so treat the per-piece weights as indicative and confirm on Booking Conditions. One figure doing the rounds online, a claim that Canada economy allows two bags but only 20 kg combined, rests on a single agent blog, contradicts a normal piece route, and is not on any PIA page, so we do not publish it here in any form. If you are flying to Canada, get the piece weights from PIA directly before you pack.
Excess baggage: buy it early, not at the airport
Excess is charged per kilogram on weight-concept routes, priced route by route, and per piece on the USA and Canada. The way to keep the cost down is PIA's Advance Purchase Excess Baggage. You can buy extra allowance online, at PIA offices or through agents from the time of ticketing until 4 hours before departure, at concessional rates below the airport walk-up price. It sells in a minimum of 5 kg, then in multiples of 5 kg, with a route-wise maximum. A frequent-flyer excess voucher product is also mentioned by aggregators in fixed blocks, but we could not confirm the exact block size on PIA's official page, so confirm any voucher quantity with PIA before relying on it. Whatever you buy, no single checked bag may weigh more than 32 kg, a safety cap that no fee removes. Price an overweight bag in advance with the excess baggage calculator.
Student baggage on PIA
There is no dedicated, standing student baggage concession confirmed for PIA in current sources. PIA has run route-specific student promotions in the past, but nothing official and current surfaced when we checked, so treat any student extra allowance as an agent-fare or promotion offer rather than a published right, and confirm directly with PIA. If a student allowance is the deciding factor for your route, compare carriers that publish one on our student baggage allowances page.
Zamzam water on PIA (summary)
PIA carries Zamzam from Jeddah and Madinah. Pilgrim-travel sources widely report one factory-sealed 5-litre container per passenger, free and in addition to the checked allowance, in the sealed container bought at the official airport counter. This is not stated on PIA's own baggage pages, so we present it as reported rather than guaranteed. The container must be the factory-sealed pack from the official airport Zamzam counter, handed to staff at check-in as a separate piece, never self-filled and never packed inside a suitcase. Full detail, the sourcing, and how PIA compares with other carriers is on our dedicated PIA Zamzam water page, and every airline sits side by side in the Zamzam rules table.
4 things to remember about PIA baggage
- Know your route model. Weight concept on Pakistan, the Gulf, the UK and Europe; piece concept on the USA and Canada. It changes how you pack.
- An extra bag costs even under weight. Except on USA and Canada routes, a second piece inside your free allowance still needs a flat 4 kg Excess Baggage Ticket.
- Buy excess in advance. Advance Purchase sells in 5 kg steps up to 4 hours before departure and costs less than the airport counter.
- Confirm the numbers. PIA changes route allowances often and its pages were not readable to our check, so verify on PIA's official page or at check-in.
