Oman Air Excess Baggage Charges (2026) + Calculator

Checked: July 2026 against Oman Air's published zone table · Fees are charged in USD, and the price in Manage Booking is final

Quick answer: Oman Air prices excess baggage from an official zone table, in US dollars per kg: USD 15 per kg between India and the GCC, USD 25 between India and Europe, USD 13 within the GCC and USD 8 inside Oman (checked July 2026). Your free allowance depends on the fare bundle: since 22 April 2026, economy tickets from India carry 20 kg on Super Saver, 30 kg on Comfort and 40 kg on Flex. The calculator below multiplies your overage by your zone's rate. Prepaying online through Manage Booking up to 8 hours before departure is discounted against the airport rate, and the figure inside your booking is the binding one.

How Oman Air prices excess baggage: one zone table, charged in US dollars

Most airlines on the India–Gulf corridor make you hunt for the excess rate. Oman Air publishes one. Extra kilos are priced from a zone table, in US dollars per kg, and four zones cover nearly every journey an India–Oman flyer makes. Your bill is straight multiplication: kilos over your allowance times your zone's rate, the same in both directions, so Kochi to Muscat and Muscat to Kochi cost the same per extra kilo. Three numbers decide what you pay.

  1. Your free allowance. Set by the fare bundle, not by the airline as a whole. Since 22 April 2026, economy tickets from India carry 20 kg on Super Saver, 30 kg on Comfort and 40 kg on Flex, with business running 40 to 60 kg by bundle. Sindbad Silver adds 10 kg and Gold adds 15 kg on top. The baggage line on your ticket is final.
  2. Prepaid excess in Manage Booking. Extra weight bought online before departure is discounted against the airport rate, and the window stays open until 8 hours before the flight. Oman Air does not publish the exact percentage, so the price your booking shows is the one to trust.
  3. The zone rate at the counter. Anything the scale finds above your allowance is billed per kilo from the official table below, in USD, with no discount.
Zone (either direction)Official excess rate
India to/from the GCC (Muscat, Dubai, Doha and the rest of the Gulf)USD 15 per kg
India to/from EuropeUSD 25 per kg
Within the GCCUSD 13 per kg
Within Oman (domestic sectors)USD 8 per kg

As checked July 2026 against Oman Air's published zone table. The airline's full table covers more region pairs; these four are the zones India–Oman flyers use most. Whatever your sector, Manage Booking quotes the binding price.

The bill comes in dollars, not rials

Oman Air's home currency is the Omani rial, fares booked from India display in rupees, and yet the excess table is priced in US dollars. Keep the three currencies straight when you budget. A rial is worth well over two US dollars under its long-standing peg, so OMR 15 and USD 15 are very different amounts, and the excess table means the dollar figure. When you actually pay, in Muscat or in Kochi, the USD amount is converted into the currency of payment, so the line on your card statement will not match the table digit for digit. Budget from the USD number, then read the converted total in Manage Booking before you tap the card. 22 April 2026: the day Super Saver became a 20 kg fare

In April 2026 Oman Air rebuilt its India allowances around fare bundles. Since 22 April 2026, economy tickets from India and the wider subcontinent carry 20 kg on Super Saver, 30 kg on Comfort and 40 kg on Flex, while business runs 40 kg on Comfort, 50 kg on Flex and 60 kg on Studio. The ladder rewards flyers who buy up and quietly trims the one who buys the cheapest fare. That second part is where the money leaks: the figure many India–Gulf passengers still carry in their heads is a flat 30 kg, and on a Super Saver ticket that memory now costs USD 150 on a GCC route, 10 kg of excess at USD 15 each.

India and subcontinent routes since 22 April 2026, as checked July 2026. Other routes attach different weights to the same bundle names, and Super Saver can drop to 0 kg on some sectors, so the baggage line on your ticket wins over any table, including this one.

⚠️ The 20 kg Super Saver surprise: since 22 April 2026 the cheapest Oman Air fare from India includes 20 kg, not the 30 kg many flyers remember. Book Super Saver, pack to the old baseline, and the scale hands you 10 kg of excess: 10 × USD 15 = USD 150 on an India–GCC route. Read the baggage line on the fare before you pack, and price the step up to Comfort against the excess you would otherwise buy; the fare gap is often the smaller number.

A worked example: 28 kg on a Super Saver ticket

Say you fly Kochi to Muscat on Super Saver with a 28 kg suitcase. Your fare includes 20 kg, so the scale reads 8 kg over. India to the GCC sits in the USD 15 zone, so the counter math is 8 × 15, a bill of USD 120 before any prepay discount. The same 8 kg overage on a Europe itinerary lands in the USD 25 zone instead: USD 200. Real money either way for a duffel of extra clothes, and avoidable with a bathroom scale and ten minutes in Manage Booking. The table shows the pattern at three common weights on a 20 kg Super Saver fare.

3 ways to shrink the bill before the airport

1. Prepay online while the discount window is open. Oman Air discounts excess weight bought online through Manage Booking, and the window runs until 8 hours before departure. The airline does not publish the exact percentage, so the honest method is procedural: weigh your packed bag at home, open your booking, and compare the online price against your zone's table rate. Every kilo you buy in advance is a kilo the counter cannot bill at the full USD rate, and the updated allowance prints on your booking, which settles any discussion at check-in.

2. Claim the kilos you already own. Sindbad Silver membership adds 10 kg and Gold adds 15 kg on top of your fare bundle automatically, which turns a 20 kg Super Saver into 30 or 35 kg without buying anything. Students aged 16 to 30 flying economy from India to Europe can also find a 10 kg extra-baggage offer through Oman Air's partner booking sites, with a student visa and university ID required at check-in. That offer does not appear on omanair.com, so confirm route eligibility and terms at booking, and see how it stacks up against other carriers in our student baggage comparison.

3. Load the cabin allowance first. The 7 kg cabin bag, measured by a 115 cm total across length, width and height, plus a personal item fly free. Dense items such as chargers, books and shoes moved up from the suitcase are kilos nobody bills. Keep the cabin bag inside the limit, which you can test in our bag size checker, because an oversized cabin bag risks being sent to the hold, where its weight joins the checked total you are trying to shrink.

The 32 kg wall and the 158 cm tape

Two caps survive any payment: no single bag may weigh more than 32 kg, and none may measure more than 158 cm across length, width and height combined. These are handling and safety limits, so the counter cannot sell you past them, whatever you offer. If your total is heading past 32 kg in one suitcase, the answer is a second bag with the weight split evenly, planned at home rather than repacked on the terminal floor. Buying excess never stretches the per-piece cap; it only pays for kilos spread across pieces that each stay legal.

Coming home from Umrah with Zamzam

One rule softens the whole table for pilgrims: Oman Air accepts one sealed 5-litre Zamzam container per guest as checked baggage on top of the regular allowance, free, from Jeddah, Madinah and Taif only, and only in government-approved packaging. Other Saudi departure cities are excluded, and terms can tighten around the Hajj peak, so recheck close to travel. Handled correctly, that is 5 litres that never touches your excess math. The packaging rules, the airport process and what happens on connections through Muscat are covered in our Zamzam on Oman Air guide.
