flydubai Excess Baggage Charges (2026) + Calculator
✓ Checked: July 2026 against flydubai's published information and cross-checked sources · Rates are set per route, so Manage Booking and your ticket are final
🧮 Estimate your excess baggage cost
Pick the fare bundle you bought and enter your bag weight. Every output is an estimate inside the commonly reported Dubai airport band; Manage Booking shows the binding price for your route.
This calculator is an estimate tool. flydubai prices excess per route and changes rates without notice; the binding figures are the rate Manage Booking quotes for your booking and the allowance printed on your ticket, and those win over anything on this page.
The Lite-fare trap: where flydubai excess bills actually start
Most airlines collect excess baggage fees when a suitcase weighs too much. On flydubai, the biggest bills usually come from a suitcase that was never included in the first place. The cheapest fare on flydubai.com, the Lite bundle, is cabin only: you get the 7 kg cabin bag (55 × 38 × 20 cm) and a small personal item up to 25 × 33 × 20 cm under the seat, and nothing in the hold. Book Lite for the low headline price, arrive at Dubai with a 15 kg suitcase, and the counter treats all 15 kg as excess at your route's per-kg rate. Across the commonly reported 2026 band of AED 40 to 100 per kg, that one assumption costs roughly AED 600 to 1,500, which on a short Gulf hop can exceed the ticket price itself.
None of this is hidden, but the booking flow makes it easy to miss: the fare name says nothing about baggage, and the price difference between Lite and Value looks like an optional upgrade rather than the cost of carrying a suitcase at all. The fix costs nothing: read the baggage line on the fare before paying. If a checked bag is coming with you, price a Value or Flex bundle at booking, or buy prepaid weight through Manage Booking afterwards. Either path costs a fraction of the Dubai counter. The full bundle-by-bundle detail, cabin rules included, lives in our flydubai baggage guide.
The bundle ladder: Lite 0, Value 20, Flex 30, Business 40
flydubai attaches checked baggage to the fare bundle, not to the route or the passenger. Four rungs cover almost every ticket, and the same suitcase can be free on one rung and a three-figure bill on another, so confirm which bundle sits on your booking before you calculate anything.
| Fare bundle | Checked baggage included | Cabin allowance | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lite | None (cabin only) | 7 kg bag + personal item | Every checked kilo is bought separately |
| Value | 20 kg | 7 kg bag + personal item | The sensible floor for one suitcase |
| Flex | 30 kg | 7 kg bag + personal item | More weight plus easier date changes |
| Business | 40 kg | 2 hand bags, 14 kg combined | A cabin class, not an economy add-on |
As checked July 2026. Some routes and promo fares vary these numbers; the allowance printed on your ticket wins over any table, including this one.
Within whatever allowance you hold, the weight can be spread across up to 3 pieces. Each piece has its own hard limits, 32 kg and 159 cm total dimensions, covered further down. And a detail students should note: flydubai publishes no student baggage scheme as of July 2026. The extra student allowance you may have read about belongs to sister airline Emirates, whose fees work differently; our Emirates excess baggage calculator handles that side of the Dubai hub.
Two prices for the same kilos: counter versus Manage Booking
Every flydubai sector is international, and the airline publishes no single flat excess rate. Instead there are two prices for any extra kilo, and the gap between them is where your money goes.
- Your free allowance. Set by the bundle: nothing on Lite, 20 kg on Value, 30 kg on Flex, 40 kg in Business, on top of the 7 kg cabin bag and the 25 × 33 × 20 cm personal item everyone carries.
- Prepaid weight in Manage Booking. Extra kilos bought online after booking, sold in weight increments up to about 6 hours before departure. flydubai's own positioning puts online prices up to 70% below the airport rate, which makes this the default move for anyone whose luggage outgrew the bundle.
- Airport counter excess. Charged per kg at a rate set for your route. From Dubai, 2026 aggregator figures commonly fall between AED 40 and 100 per kg, and nobody at the counter negotiates. Long, thin routes tend toward the top of the band, short Gulf hops toward the bottom, but only Manage Booking shows the exact figure for your sector.
That per-route pricing is why this page prints a band rather than one confident number. Third-party sites quoting a single flydubai per-kg rate are averaging routes that can differ by double or more. Work out your overage in kilos, then read the exact rate inside your own booking; anything else is an estimate, including ours.
A worked example before you pack
Say you fly Dubai to Mumbai on a Value fare with a 27 kg suitcase. The bundle covers 20 kg, so the scale reads 7 kg over. Across the commonly reported airport band, 7 kg costs roughly AED 280 to 700 at the counter. Prepaid through Manage Booking, the same 7 kg could fall to roughly AED 85 to 210 if the full advertised 70% saving applies on your route, and somewhere between the two if it does not. The pattern at three common weights:
| Scenario | Excess | Airport estimate (AED 40–100/kg) |
|---|---|---|
| 23 kg on Value (20 kg included) | 3 kg | ≈ AED 120–300 |
| 27 kg on Value (20 kg included) | 7 kg | ≈ AED 280–700 |
| 15 kg suitcase on Lite (0 kg included) | 15 kg | ≈ AED 600–1,500 |
Computed across the commonly reported AED 40 to 100 per kg band from Dubai, 2026 figures. Your route sets the real rate; Manage Booking shows it, and prepaid prices land lower. We will not print a per-route number we cannot stand behind.
The third row is the Lite trap in numbers: a modest 15 kg suitcase costs more than either Value scenario, purely because the fare included nothing. If your trip involves other carriers, the excess baggage calculator hub runs the same maths for every airline we track.
The caps no payment removes: 3 pieces, 32 kg each, 159 cm
Money buys kilos on flydubai. It does not buy exceptions to three physical limits. Your checked allowance, included or purchased, can be split across up to 3 pieces; no single piece may exceed 32 kg; and each piece must stay within 159 cm total dimensions (length + width + height). The 32 kg figure is a safety rule for the loaders who lift the bag, so a 40 kg trunk gets refused, whatever you offer to pay. If a prepaid purchase takes your total above 32 kg, plan the second bag before you leave home and split the weight evenly, keeping each piece under the 159 cm cap.
3 ways to cut the bill before anyone weighs anything
1. Prepay the weight in Manage Booking. Weigh your packed bag at home with a luggage scale, open your booking on flydubai.com or the app, and buy the increment that covers the overage. Online prices run up to 70% below the counter, the added weight prints on your booking, and the option stays open until about 6 hours before departure. After that window closes, the airport rate is the only rate.
2. Fill the free cabin allowance first. Everyone gets the 7 kg cabin bag at 55 × 38 × 20 cm plus a personal item up to 25 × 33 × 20 cm under the seat, and Business passengers get two hand bags at 14 kg combined. Dense items, chargers, books, shoes, moved from the suitcase into the cabin bag are kilos nobody bills. Keep the cabin bag inside the frame, though: flydubai's 20 cm depth is slim, and an oversized cabin bag gets gate-checked into the hold. Sixty seconds in our bag size checker settles it before the airport does.
3. Price the next bundle up before you price excess. If you are buying 8 or 10 kg of prepaid weight on a Value fare, compare it against what Flex would have cost at booking; the 30 kg bundle sometimes beats 20 kg plus purchased extras, and it adds change flexibility. On the return leg, remember shopping weighs something: the suitcase that left Dubai at 19 kg rarely comes home at 19 kg.
Zamzam water: four Saudi airports, free and extra
For Umrah and Hajj returnees, flydubai is one of the friendlier carriers on the Zamzam question. One sealed 5-litre container in government-approved packaging flies free and on top of your checked allowance from Jeddah, Madinah, Taif and Yanbu, four airports where most airlines cover only one or two. From other Saudi cities the container is allowed but counts inside your allowance, so on a tightly packed Value fare those 5 litres can quietly become 5 kg of excess. Use the official sealed container, carry it as its own piece, and confirm at check-in. Packing rules, sealing requirements and the airport-by-airport detail live in our flydubai Zamzam water guide.
FAQs: flydubai excess baggage charges
How much are flydubai excess baggage charges per kg?
There is no single flat rate. flydubai prices excess per kg by route, and 2026 figures from Dubai commonly land around AED 40 to 100 per kg at the airport counter. Prepaid baggage bought through Manage Booking is up to 70% cheaper, and the price shown inside your booking is the one that binds.
How do I prepay extra baggage on flydubai?
Open Manage Booking on flydubai.com or the app, retrieve your trip, and buy extra weight in the baggage section. It is sold in weight increments up to about 6 hours before departure, and buying in advance can cost up to 70% less than the airport counter for the same kilos.
Does the cheapest flydubai fare include a checked bag?
No. The Lite fare is cabin only: a 7 kg cabin bag plus a small personal item up to 25 × 33 × 20 cm, and nothing in the hold. Any suitcase you bring to the counter on a Lite ticket is billed as excess from the first kilo.
What is the maximum weight for one bag on flydubai?
32 kg per piece, within 159 cm total dimensions, and you can spread your weight allowance across up to 3 pieces. No fee removes the 32 kg cap; a heavier bag must be repacked into two pieces before it is accepted.
Can I take Zamzam water on flydubai without an excess charge?
Yes, with conditions. One sealed 5-litre container in government-approved packaging flies free and on top of the checked allowance from Jeddah, Madinah, Taif and Yanbu. From other Saudi cities it is allowed but counts inside your checked allowance, so it can create excess if you are already at your limit.
Weight sorted. Now check the size
Excess fees are one half of the airport test. flydubai's slim 20 cm cabin-bag depth is the other.
