Cabin baggage: 7 kg and a 115 cm total
Biman allows one cabin bag of 7 kg in economy and 10 kg in business. That 7 kg matches the corridor standard used by most carriers, so a hand bag packed for IndiGo, Emirates or Qatar Airways will usually sit inside the Biman limit too. The size rule is where Biman is worded differently. The official Biman UK page states a single number: the three sides added together must not exceed 115 cm (45 in). It does not publish a strict length-by-width-by-depth box on that page.
You will see 56 × 36 × 23 cm quoted across booking aggregators, and it is internally consistent because 56 plus 36 plus 23 equals 115. Treat that shape as a widely cited reading of the 115 cm total, not an official per-dimension limit from Biman. In practice, keep the three sides adding up to 115 cm or less and the weight under 7 kg, and test the bag in the tool above, which checks the sum rather than each side on its own.
The personal item is the open question. Biman's own wording describes one cabin piece, a handbag or a laptop bag, and one aggregator claims a separate small personal item on top. That extra item is not stated on Biman's pages, so plan for one cabin piece only unless Biman confirms a second small bag for your route and fare.
Checked baggage: the weight concept, route by route
On almost every Biman route the checked allowance runs on the weight concept: a total number of kilograms, spread across a maximum of two pieces, with no single piece over 32 kg and each piece within 158 cm of total dimensions. Domestic Bangladesh
On flights inside Bangladesh, between Dhaka, Chattogram, Sylhet, Cox's Bazar and the other domestic stations, the economy allowance is 20 kg and business is 30 kg, up to two pieces. Infants get 10 kg and one piece, and the infant piece is held to 115 cm rather than the usual 158 cm. These domestic figures come from Biman's own material and match the main aggregators.
UK and Europe
To and from London Heathrow and Manchester, the economy allowance is 40 kg and business is 50 kg, per piece within 158 cm and no single piece over 32 kg. This is the one international tier that is independently confirmed on Biman's official UK GSA, so it is the figure on this page you can lean on hardest.
Gulf and Saudi Arabia
On the Gulf and Saudi routes that carry so many Bangladeshi pilgrims and workers, the outbound economy allowance from Dhaka to Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam or Madinah is commonly reported near 30 kg, with business around 40 kg. Return allowances from Saudi Arabia to Dhaka are often quoted higher, up to 50 kg from Jeddah or Madinah and up to 45 kg from Riyadh or Dammam, with business figures higher still.
One more caveat cuts across every route: discounted and promotional fares may be capped at 30 kg regardless of class. A business ticket bought on a promo fare will not always carry the full business weight, so read the fare rules attached to your booking.
North America: the piece concept
Biman's North America service uses the piece concept instead of weight: a set number of pieces, each with its own weight cap, rather than a single pooled figure. That service is currently Toronto (Canada) only. Biman does not presently operate to the United States, so a US reader cannot book Biman today, and any US piece rule you see quoted is a plan rather than a live service. If Biman adds a US route later, confirm whether the piece concept applies before you rely on it.
Excess baggage and the fees that apply
Two hard limits sit on top of everything: total excess is capped at 100 kg and/or five pieces per passenger, and any single piece over 32 kg has to be repacked before Biman will accept it, no fee removes that safety cap.
On UK routes the official Biman GSA publishes clear rates: overweight is GBP 10.00 per extra kilogram, and an extra checked piece is GBP 100 up to 15 kg, GBP 130 up to 20 kg and GBP 160 up to 25 kg. These are confirmed figures you can budget against.
On Saudi routes the per-kilogram rates seen online, roughly USD 20 per kg on the outbound and SAR 45 per kg on the return, are approximate figures from a single travel agent rather than a Biman tariff. Use them only as a rough guide and confirm the current per-kilogram rate at the departure station, because station rates for Gulf and Saudi flights move often.
Zamzam water on Biman: what is reported
Biman is commonly reported to carry one sealed 5-litre Zamzam container per passenger from Saudi Arabia as a free extra, outside the normal checked allowance, as a courtesy for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. That said, this status is not confirmed on Biman's own website, only on third-party industry tables, and free-versus-inside-allowance is exactly the field carriers change most, so confirm with Biman before you travel. The container goes in the checked hold only, never the cabin, since it is well over the 100 ml liquid limit; it must be a sealed container, presented separately at check-in, and loose or self-packed bottles inside a suitcase are refused.
